Give a wide berth.

These days, for the sake of my sanity, I resolve to give a wide berth to popular American news outlets. I do want to know what’s going on in the world. For example, I’d appreciate having a few minutes to reflect on my life before a nuclear bomb explodes in my city. I’d like to know which foods in my refrigerator have been recalled due to listeria or E Coli.

Do you see the pattern here? Most of the news is bad. We’re hurtling toward fascism; we’ve normalized racism; we’re told we must fear socialism. There are so many isms. Just look at this list.

I want to stop being afraid. I want to make the world kinder. Can I plant seeds of compassion in my little field and give flowers to the world? Yes, I believe that’s what I shall do.
