FFFtPP Week #10: Phil was not prepared

The challenge post is here

Phil stepped out of his spacecraft and looked around. He was on Earth again, but not by choice. His original destination was a planet known as Venu. Venu was a version of the planet Venus but in a parallel dimension. Now a ship malfunction had him stuck on Earth for at least a week. It would take a rescue ship that long to reach him.

Phil was used to traveling with friends who were smart enough to pack emergency supplies. Phil was not that smart, and now he was hungry. He spied some red berries on a bush with prickly leaves. Are these berries edible? He wondered. Gingerly, he plucked a berry off of the plant and brought it to his nose. The smell wasn’t offensive, so he took a bite. Upon registering the bitter taste, he spat it out and used the back of his hand to wipe his tongue.

Phil was beginning to panic until he realized that there was plenty of drinking water on the ship. He went in, took a few sips, and curled up on the bunk. He vowed to be better prepared next time as he drifted into sleep.
